A New Evolution in the Takeuchi Excavator Lineup

At CONEXPO 2026 in Las Vegas, Takeuchi introduced the next evolution in its excavator lineup: the Takeuchi TB3150R. Designed as the successor to the long-standing TB2150, the new machine builds on a proven platform while introducing several key upgrades focused on performance, operator comfort, and durability.

During the show, Justin Jones of Luby Equipment spoke with Tim Cicora, Product Manager for Takeuchi Excavators, about what makes the TB3150R an important step forward for contractors.

According to Cicora, the goal was simple: take an already successful machine and refine it.

“We’ve taken a great base machine that’s been in service for a long time with a lot of happy end users,” Cicora explained. “Then we improved it with refinements and operator comforts to make it even better.”

A New Engine and More Hydraulic Power

One of the most significant changes to the TB3150R is the move from a Deutz engine to a Yanmar engine. While the engine change alone is notable, it also led to several improvements in the machine’s hydraulic system.

The redesigned system eliminates a gear pump that previously drove the cooling fan. Instead, the machine now uses a bi-metal clutch engagement fan driven directly from the engine. This change results in improved efficiency and a 14% gain in hydraulic horsepower.

For operators and contractors, that increase translates to stronger performance when running attachments, digging, and handling demanding jobsite tasks.

A Redesigned Cab for Operator Comfort

Takeuchi also introduced an updated three-series cab design on the TB3150R, focusing heavily on operator comfort and productivity.

When operators spend eight to ten hours a day in a machine, comfort matters. The updated cab includes:

  • A new monitor display
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • An air-ride operator seat
  • Improved ergonomics and layout

According to Cicora, a comfortable operator directly impacts jobsite efficiency.

“When you have a comfortable operator, you have a more efficient and more productive operator,” he said.

Improved Track Design and Durability

The TB3150R also features improvements designed to increase durability and reduce wear in demanding environments.

One of those upgrades is a new rubber track design. The internal track pattern has been redesigned to create a stronger and lighter track, improving overall performance and longevity.

Takeuchi also added a hose retention collar, which helps reduce wear on hydraulic hoses by preventing unnecessary movement and friction.

These refinements may seem small individually, but together they contribute to a machine designed for long-term reliability in tough conditions.

Boom Options for Different Jobsite Needs

The TB3150R will initially launch with a fixed boom configuration, providing a strong and stable design for general excavation work.

Takeuchi also plans to introduce a swing boom option later in the year, giving contractors additional flexibility when working in tighter spaces or near structures.

Coming Soon to Jobsites

Takeuchi expects the new TB3150R excavator to begin arriving in the market around mid-year, giving contractors access to the latest evolution of one of the brand’s most trusted machines.

With increased hydraulic performance, a redesigned operator environment, and several durability upgrades, the TB3150R represents a thoughtful improvement on a machine that already had a strong reputation in the field.

For contractors looking for a powerful and refined excavator in this class, the new Takeuchi TB3150R is set to become an important addition to the lineup.
