I had a hydraulic problem on my skid steer and called all my local dealers in the lake Ozark area. They were all weeks out and really acted like they didn’t want to take the job. We called Luby Equipment out of Springfield and they pulled it in the next day to diagnose, and got the ball rolling. Travis at the desk answered all our phone calls and let us know the progress. If my Case machine needs work from here on out, I’ll be taking it to Luby. Customer service was tip top
Response from the owner:Cody, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. We’re glad we could get you taken care of on such short notice. We know downtime is money lost, so keeping customers updated and getting machines back to work matters. We’ll make sure Travis and the Springfield team see this.

1. Takeuchi TB240 Compact Excavator

Best For: Urban utility installs, trenching, and confined job sites

The TB240 is a compact yet powerful excavator that strikes an excellent balance between performance, size, and maneuverability. Its 8,300-lb operating weight allows it to be easily trailered between sites while offering nearly 12 feet of digging depth. This model shines in crowded job sites where space is limited, such as inner-city water and gas line work or fiber optic trenching along busy roadways.

Key features that benefit utility crews include:

  • Independent boom swing for digging offset trenches
  • Smooth, responsive hydraulics
  • Long-arm configuration for extended reach
  • Easy service access to minimize downtime

Contractors appreciate the TB240 for its reduced tail swing, which makes it safer and more efficient to operate in tight quarters. Its reliability during long shifts and low maintenance needs add to its popularity among Midwest utility operators.

2. Takeuchi TL12R2 Compact Track Loader

Best For: Grading, material handling, and ground prep

When utility contractors need serious muscle for site prep and material movement, the TL12R2 delivers. As one of the most powerful compact track loaders in the Takeuchi lineup, it’s designed for high production and demanding conditions. The radial-lift design offers excellent stability and breakout force, making it a go-to machine for grading significant easements or clearing heavy material ahead of utility installations.

Performance highlights:

  • 111-hp engine for heavy-duty tasks
  • 12,860-lb operating weight for increased traction
  • Superior hydraulic flow for attachments like trenchers or brooms
  • Spacious cab with excellent visibility and ergonomic controls

Its track system provides the low ground pressure needed for soft or muddy Midwest terrains, particularly during spring thaw or after heavy rain.

Utility crews value the TL12R2 for its ability to reduce jobsite bottlenecks and support various attachments with ease. It’s frequently used to prepare the ground quickly before directional drilling crews arrive, helping to speed up project timelines.

3. Takeuchi TB216 Compact Excavator

Best For: Light-duty excavation, residential utility jobs, and quick transport

The TB216 is a compact and agile machine that performs exceptionally well in residential utility applications. Its narrow frame and retractable undercarriage make it ideal for fence-line trenching, septic installs, or water line repairs in backyards and other confined spaces. Despite its small size, it packs enough hydraulic power to handle a wide range of tasks.

Standout attributes:

  • Operating weight under 4,000 lbs for easy trailering
  • Retractable tracks for tight access areas
  • Pilot-operated joystick controls for precision
  • Boom swing and auxiliary hydraulics for versatility

Midwest utility contractors working in suburban areas or on fast-paced service calls frequently choose the TB216 for its maneuverability, low operating costs, and quick setup on the job site.

For those managing fleets, the TB240, TL12R2, and TB216 each bring unique strengths that complement a well-rounded utility operation.
