I had a hydraulic problem on my skid steer and called all my local dealers in the lake Ozark area. They were all weeks out and really acted like they didn’t want to take the job. We called Luby Equipment out of Springfield and they pulled it in the next day to diagnose, and got the ball rolling. Travis at the desk answered all our phone calls and let us know the progress. If my Case machine needs work from here on out, I’ll be taking it to Luby. Customer service was tip top
Response from the owner:Cody, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. We’re glad we could get you taken care of on such short notice. We know downtime is money lost, so keeping customers updated and getting machines back to work matters. We’ll make sure Travis and the Springfield team see this.

Defining the Mini Skid Steer

A mini skid steer, also known as a compact utility loader or mini track loader, is a small, versatile piece of equipment designed for construction, landscaping, and agriculture. It’s a scaled-down version of its larger counterpart, the full-sized skid steer, but with some unique features that set it apart.

Main Features of Mini Skid Steers

  1. Compact Size: Mini skid steers are significantly smaller than traditional ones, typically measuring 3 to 4 feet wide and 6 to 8 feet long. This compact size allows them to access tight spaces and navigate through narrow gates or doorways.
  2. Track System: Most mini skid steers use a track system instead of wheels, providing excellent traction and minimal ground disturbance. This makes them ideal for work on delicate surfaces like lawns or finished concrete.
  3. Stand-On Operation: Unlike full-sized skid steers, which have operators sitting inside a cab, mini skid steers are typically operated from a stand-on platform at the rear of the machine. This design improves visibility and allows for quick mounting and dismounting.
  4. Attachment Versatility: Mini skid steers are designed to work with various attachments, making them incredibly versatile. Common attachments include buckets, augers, trenchers, forks, and brush cutters.
  5. Lifting Capacity: Despite their small size, mini skid steers can lift impressive loads. Most models can handle between 500 and 1,500 pounds, depending on the specific machine.

Capabilities and Applications

Mini skid steers are prized for their versatility and can perform a wide range of tasks across various industries:

  1. Landscaping: They excel at tasks like grading, trenching for irrigation, planting trees, and moving materials like mulch or stone.
  2. Construction: Mini skid steers can handle demolition work, debris removal, and material transport on construction sites, especially in areas with limited access.
  3. Agriculture: Farmers and ranchers use them for cleaning barns, feeding livestock, and maintaining fences.
  4. Property Maintenance: They’re useful for snow removal, brush clearing, and general property upkeep.
  5. Utility Work: Mini skid steers can assist with underground utility installation and maintenance, particularly in residential areas where space is limited.
  • Maneuverability: Their small size allows them to work in tight spaces where larger equipment can’t access.
  • Versatility: With the right attachments, a single mini skid steer can perform the work of multiple specialized machines.
  • Low Ground Pressure: The track system distributes weight evenly, minimizing lawn damage and other sensitive surfaces.
  • Cost-Effective: Mini skid steers are generally less expensive to purchase, operate, and transport than larger equipment.
  • Easy to Transport: Their compact size means they can be easily transported on a small trailer, often behind a pickup truck.
  • User-Friendly: The intuitive controls and stand-on design make mini skid steers relatively easy to operate, even for less experienced users.

Considerations When Choosing a Mini Skid Steer

If you’re considering adding a mini skid steer to your equipment lineup, keep these factors in mind:

  1. Lifting Capacity: Ensure the machine can handle the loads you typically work with.
  2. Width: Consider the narrowest spaces you’ll need to access and choose a model that can fit.
  3. Hydraulic Flow: Higher hydraulic flow rates allow for more powerful attachments.
  4. Attachment Compatibility: Check that the mini skid steer is compatible with the attachments you need for your work.
  5. Fuel Type: Mini skid steers are available in diesel, gasoline, and electric models. Choose based on your preferences and job site requirements.
  6. Brand and Support: Opt for a reputable brand with good local support for parts and services.

Luby Equipment offers a range of high-quality mini skid steers from top manufacturers. Our knowledgeable staff can help you select the right model for your specific needs and provide ongoing support and maintenance to keep your equipment running smoothly.

Mini skid steers are compact powerhouses that offer incredible versatility for various industries and applications. Their small size, maneuverability, and ability to use multiple attachments make them an invaluable tool for many contractors, landscapers, and property owners. Whether tackling a large construction project or maintaining a small property, a mini skid steer could be the perfect solution to improve your efficiency and capabilities.
